Rations
Giving your troops something besides the standard ration can benefit them greatly, having good food, alcohol, tobacco, tea and coffee. Improving morale and their stats, this can depend on what you want them to do, alcohol being good for melee and charging, Cheese for morale, tobacco for accuracy, tea for accuracy and reload, and coffee for reload and move speed. Give your men good rations to improve the ability to fight.
